About Mine Site Technologies (Canada) Inc.

Company Overview
MST Global (MST) provides mine communications networks and operational productivity solutions which assist organisations in the mining, resources and industrial sectors to optimally manage their core business operations.

Founded in Australia in 1989, the company specialises in the design, deployment and support of critical technologies for communications, mining automation-enablement, production optimisation, vehicle and tracking miners underground, and safety in hazardous underground and surface environments. A pioneering force within the mining industry, the company has over 600 technology deployments at mine sites worldwide.

MST deployed the first commercially available TTE (Through the Earth) technology, being the PED Emergency Warning System. Since that time, MST has developed and expanded its suite of communications technologies which range from VDV Leaky Feeder Radio Systems to the newest Wi-Fi (IP) based ImPact Digital System. Surface communication technologies range from radio systems through to wireless mesh, private LTE networks, to microwave and satellite links.

MST also has a history of successful end-to-end deployments where clear radio and data communications are required for construction and maintenance of pipelines, railroads and other projects in remote and extremely harsh environments.

These years of experience have also been applied to track personnel, monitor assets and maintain operations visibility to reduce risk and improve operations within the industrial arena, particularly underground mining.

MST’s integrated communications technology infrastructure and applications allows the collection and insight into operational metrics which can be used to improve ROI. Customers around the world trust MST solutions to help them optimise output, minimise cost and reduce risk.

Working on six continents, MST’s offices and support centres are strategically located in the world’s primary mining regions and continue to expand. Our global headquarters is located in Sydney, Australia.

Services

Mine Site Technologies (MST Global) has a range of products that fit within four main technology groups. From ULF to VHF and UHF, through to digital Wi-Fi based systems, MST has developed a number proprietary products to address particular requirements and to complement third party products that may be used in a system.

MST’s product suites can be used in isolation or in combination to provide a total solution to mine operators’ requirements. Voice communications, data communications, people tracking, emergency messaging, asset tracking & management, wireless telemetry and proximity detection are all functions delivered by these systems.

The following outlines the range of individual system components, devices and applications by product group. Their implementation is determined by a mine’s requirements and the resulting system architecture design to optimally meet those requirements.

Proximity Detection Systems

MST’s Proximity Detection Systems provide an additional level of control in managing the collision risks around people-vehicle and vehicle-vehicle interactions in mines, ports and construction sites.

  • Proximity System Controller
  • Prox System Personal Tag
  • Prox LF Field Generator
  • Vehicle Driver User Screen

ImPact Digital Technology Suite

The ImPact System deploys an underground digital network in a mining operation to enable the use of a number of IP based Ethernet and Wi-Fi applications & devices. Key components of the network and individual devices include:

  • NS50 Wireless Network Switch/AP
  • NS40 I.S. Wireless Network Switch/ AP for coal mine use
  • PoE Wireless Access Point
  • ImPact Communication Appliance – MineDash
  • Vehicle Intelligence Platform (VIP)
  • Data logger/ Wi-Fi Bridge
  • MinePhone I.S. VoIP Handset
  • Active RFID Tags
  • Composite Cable Optic Fibre/ Power Cable in one

PED Through-the Earth Transmission System

The PED System was the first genuine through-the-earth (TTE) system deployed in mines. Using ultra low frequency (ULF) signalling, it remains to this day the only widely deployed TTE system used in mines. The unique transmission system ensures all parts of an underground mine are in signal coverage so that the primary use of a PED is to provide a mine-wide emergency messaging and alert system. The technology use has also been extended into remote equipment control and remote, centralised blast initiation requirements.
  • Integrated Communications Cap Lamp ICCL
  • AutoPED PED Vehicle Receiver
  • ControlPED Remotely Operated Switching
  • BlastPED ST Remote Blast Initiator for Surface Mines
  • BlastPED Remote Blast Initiator for Underground Mines

VDV Leaky Feeder Radio System

The VDV leaker Feeder radio system provides a high quality, two way voice communications to underground hard rock mines and tunnels. The leaky coax antenna allows the use of a variety of digital and analogue radios from all major radio manufacturers, such as Tait, Motorola, iCom, Kenwood and others.

  • VDV Headend Base Station
  • Line Amplifier
  • Splitter/ Branch Unit
  • Leaky Feeder Coaxial Cable
  • Termination Loads
  • Pilot Tone Generators

Radio Communications

MST provides a range of solutions for voice and data communications to surface mining, remote operations and pipeline construction projects. The technologies depend on the applications, ranging from radio systems through to wireless mesh, private LTE networks, and microwave and satellite links.

  • P25
  • DMR
  • Analogue
Mesh Networks
  • Transmitter Links
  • Console and Dispatch
  • GPS Tracking and Monitoring
  • Telephony and Accessories
Wireless Mesh Telemetry - Wireless Sensor Network

MST Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) provides a wireless mesh extension to our core ImPact Network to provide a easily deployable, highly reliable data link to remote sensors and transducers. A common application is to stream data from Geotechnical monitoring sensors back to the mine’s network without the need for any data or power cabling.

  • Remote Telemetry Unit (RTU)
  • WSN Gateway Unit
  • ICA Server Appliance
