Services

Painters have an extremely diverse group of crafts within a trade with an enormous amount of skill sets. There are specialty skill sets whether a worker is a painter/decorator or an industrial painter. Some of those skills are spray painters, sandblasters, wall covering/vinyl applicators, special/faux finishes, special coatings, brush/roll applicators, and others. Painters work in various areas from office buildings and residences to bridges, tanks and water towers. Each portion of the industry takes on its own terminology and skills. Painters are a certified trade with apprenticeships available at the OIFSC through MTCU.

Drywall Finishers/Plasterers are the majority of OCP members in Ontario. These workers finish sheet rock on walls and ceilings prior to coatings or other finishes being applied. Moreover, the drywall Local Union 1891 is the largest drywall finisher and plasterer local in North America. Market share is extremely high and is one of the highest paid trades in the construction industry.

Glazier and Metal Technicians are transforming their trade name to “Architectural Glass & Metal Technician” (glaziers) as recommended by the Provincial Advisory Committee on apprenticeship for the trade. Glaziers are workers that install architectural metal frames and glass into buildings primarily in the commercial and institutional sectors. Glazing and glass finishes on buildings can become very artistic.

Asbestos Workers, Mould Removers, Fire Stopping, Sprayed Polyurethane Applicators, Polypropylene Plastic Sheet Membrane Applicators, Air Vapour Barriers and Hazmat Technicians are exclusive and special trades which the IUPAT represents throughout Ontario.

EIFS workers are a certified trade in Ontario. Currently Ontario is the only location in North America wherein this industry is recognized as a trade.

IUPAT District Council 46 and some other Locals represent industrial workers and other trades such as fireproofers, epoxy floor workers, etc. Conditions vary in each area. Sign workers in a manufacturing environment have different conditions than those workers in a steel manufacturing facility.
