About Shift2Lean Inc.

Shift2Lean (S2L) specializes in developing the ability to deliver high performance building projects, through the implementation of lean and integrated project delivery practices. We deliver exceptional value by creating lean teams and by training, coaching and facilitating teams to deliver projects through the use of lean methodology & tools.

Our approach has enabled us to deliver some of our industries most challenging projects for knowledgeable owners that have high expectations for value and performance. The Lean Project Delivery system has been used successfully to deliver the University of Winnipeg Richardson College for the Environment Development, the Churchill Northern Studies Center, Nortep Multi-unit residential Developments, the Okanagan College Trades Centre and the Mosaic Centre projects.

As early adopters of Lean Project Delivery, our Team is at the forefront of developing and building Lean capacity in the Canadian building industry. We have participated in hosting Lean conference programming, connecting Lean practitioners, growing the industry communities of practice, and delivering Lean training to all sectors, Owners, Designers, Contractors, Major Trades and Supply Chain.

Our capabilities include project planning, project management, lean project facilitation, target value design and last planner system implementation. We also have expertise in the design of sustainable buildings including passive solar design, Net Zero building, LEED certification, building management systems, energy management, measurement and verification and energy modelling.

Services

Our mission is to create high-performing, highly engaged teams, so that your projects realize great outcomes.

We start with learning more about your projects, your challenges, and what you might already know about Lean. Then we design a custom built development program, including fundamental training, interactive games and exercises, and then actual implementation on a project of your choice. We introduce the necessary lessons based upon the stage that your team and project is at.

Each session introduces foundational Lean principles, and how those can be applied to project design and delivery. All of our Lean development sessions are designed to be interactive, so that your team can learn through intentional actions, in the moment, and be able to apply what they've learned immediately after. From procurement, team formation and relationship building, to integrated design and construction sequencing, to streamlined commissioning for completion - we have your needs covered. Lean projects - end to end.

Lean Project Delivery Bootcamp
Join us for a highly interactive workshop (including case-studies and simulations!) that introduces Lean project fundamentals and practices. We’ll cover the process and requirements of the Last Planner® System (LPS), and you’ll learn how to improve productivity and deliver high value in less time, at lower cost, with reduced risk. During the workshop, attendees will build Lego buildings. In the first round, we’ll be constructing our buildings based on traditional delivery methodologies and gaining a baseline on the team's planning and building capabilities. Next, we’ll learn the Last Planner® System and how it is used to plan and execute projects with collaboration, discipline and accountability. In a follow-up round, we’ll test the group’s newly acquired LP®S knowledge and measure the results. Our next session in Vancouver is now SOLD OUT! If you would like to bring this workshop to your team or city, please contact us directly. We'll be happy to accommodate your request!
Lean Leadership for Construction Professionals
Lean Project Delivery can help deliver projects more efficiently while enhancing productivity, and improving profitability throughout the construction project. Lean Construction has demonstrated its ability to minimize costs and maximize value for all project participants. Join us for a highly interactive two-day workshop offered in collaboration with Shift2Lean and 360PMO which shall introduce learners to fundamental benefits, principles, tools, and techniques of Lean Construction. The workshop shall include case-studies and simulations that introduces Lean Project Fundamentals and practices for construction professionals. We’ll cover the process and requirements of the Last Planner®System (LPS), and you’ll learn how to improve productivity and deliver high value in less time, at lower cost, with reduced risk. Due to low registration, our fall session has been put on hold. If you are interested in participating in, or bringing this training to your team, please contact us directly.
Online Lean Kick-Start: Taking the Fast Lane to Project Success
In case you haven't heard already, Lean Construction works! And, following the successes in the US, there has been a growing movement in Canada for construction companies to learn more about how they can eliminate delays and cost overruns too. Maybe you are one of them, and even though you don’t have 10,000 hours to develop mastery, you want to dip your toes in the water, and Giv’er a Go. If that's you, then this online Kick-Start course is for you! Overall, the goal of this online course is to provide participants with knowledge of the stages and systems necessary for kick-starting a lean project using best practices, plus prepare you to become certified in Lean Project Delivery, counting towards 50 hours of credits and preparing you to write the certification exam. This program was developed based upon lessons learned from more than 10 high performing projects. It is the only program that we know of that includes all of the steps required to help you deliver your own Lean project using any type of project delivery contract type. Our approach is that with the right team and disciplined execution of lean project systems, any project will benefit from the collaboration, flow and efficiency this creates. We have a waitlist started for anyone who is interested, and will run the program when we have 8-10 people. As an alternate, bring this training to your team, and your team alone - we can customize the exercises to projects and challenges within your own organization! To see more details, and to register on the waitlist, please visit our website.

The recorded session can be found here: https://www.shift2lean.ca/training-events And if learning more about strategies for moving forward with Procuring in Lean, or justifying the case for doing so, sign up for the eSeminar listed in our Projects, or on the same website page as the recorded dialogue!
Webinar: How Lean Principals can Deliver High-Performance Labs
Overwhelming statistics show that Lean projects are more likely to be delivered under budget and ahead of schedule while increasing quality and out-performing traditional project delivery approaches. One of our founders, Murray Guy, introduced the University of Winnipeg to Lean Project Delivery (LPD) to deliver the $80M Richardson College for the Environment development. The scope included a Science Laboratory Building, Student Residence and Daycare. The project had high expectations for value, was over budget and had very tight time constraints, so a new approach was needed. Introducing the LPD approach worked, and the result was a the delivery of a LEED Gold facility that is one of North America's most energy efficient laboratory facilities, using 60% less energy than traditional builds. Based upon the success of this project, LPD has become the preferred project delivery method at the U of W. Hosted by Sustainable Labs Canada, we invite you to join Murray to hear more about the ups and downs of implementation on this project, and how you can benefit from implementing Lean with your next team.
