With a diverse economy, Los Angeles has the busiest container port in the Western Hemisphere, has been ranked in the Global Cities Index and the Global Economic Power Index, and was the third-largest city by GDP in the world with a gross metropolitan product of $1 trillion (as of 2017).
Home to iconic landmarks like the Greek Theater, the Hollywood sign, Griffith Observatory, and the Venice Beach boardwalk, Los Angeles is also blessed with an average of 284 sunny days per year, and a vast park system that includes 446 parks, and 184 recreation centers, across more than 16,000 acres of land.

The City of Los Angeles is a Mayor-Council-Commission form of government, with the Mayor, City Controller, and City Attorney elected by residents every four years. Fifteen City Council members representing fifteen districts are elected by the citizens for four-year terms, for a maximum of three terms. With members of Boards and Commissions typically appointed by the Mayor, and subject to the approval of the Los Angeles City Council.
